CARBON BALANCED PAPER

Carbon Balanced Paper is an initiative that provides a credible solution for organizations to reduce the carbon impacts of their paper based communications. The Carbon Balanced logo enables adopters to communicate clearly to their customers, and stakeholders, a commitment to reducing their carbon impacts and effects on climate change.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Put simply, it is where the average carbon impact for paper production has been balanced, or offset, by the World Land Trust – an international conservation charity - through the preservation of high conservation forests, saving threatened habitats and their biodiversity. Sir David Attenborough OM, CH, FRS is among its Patrons.

Through land purchase of ecologically important standing forests under threat of clearance, carbon is locked that would otherwise be released. These protected forests are then able to continue absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. Referred to as REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation), this is now recognised as one of the most cost-effective and quickest ways to arrest the rise atmospheric CO2 and global warming effects.

WHATS IN IT FOR BUSINESS & SPECIFIERS OF PRINT

Business, Government and the Public Sector are focused on reducing their environmental impacts. The paper industry leads this process by supplying products and environmental solutions such as using recycled fibre and FSC or PEFC  Chain of Custody certified paper. Paper is renewable and recyclable and therefore inherently sustainable.

Organisations today are increasingly focused on limiting their effects on climate change by reducing carbon impacts throughout the supply chain. Carbon Balanced Paper is a simple choice that will reduce the carbon impacts of their marketing communications. Importantly, through the use of highly recognizable iconography, they can communicate this action to their customers and other stakeholders.
