The Benefits Of Using Lightweight Coated Paper

Printed communications and advertising material aimed at consumers still pack a punch for a wide range of businesses, even in this digital age.

Brochures, direct mail and magazines are all powerful ways to engage potential customers and showcase a company's eco credentials.

How these printed products look and feel are key components of their success: but with such a variety of paper stocks to choose from, how can companies be certain they're using the right one?

We can help. We are one of the UK's leading coated, uncoated and specialist paper suppliers and sustainability is at the core of everything we do.

Let's take a closer look at lightweight coated (LWC) paper: a great choice for your next print project.

    Lightweight coated paper

Lightweight coated (LWC) paper stock is created using a mechanical pulping process that grinds logs or wood chips to separate wood fibres, rather than using chemicals.

As well as costing much less than their chemical counterparts, mechanical pulping also generates a higher yield: usually between 85% to 95%. That means we get more paper from each three.

It has a surface coating and typically weighs between 36-90 gsm, with brightness and opacity increasing along with weight.

These 'bulky' grades offer businesses the chance to reduce grammage and costs, without compromising on paper thickness.

Lightweight coated paper is widely used for magazines, brochures and other products requiring excellent printing paper, as it is ideal for heatset web offset and rotogravure printing systems.
