Environmental Policy Statement

At Denmaur we adopt a conscientious approach to environmental issues and regularly review our working practices to ensure that we are fully compliant with all relevant environmental legislation for our type of business.

As a paper merchant we do not manufacture any products and therefore our impact on the environment is as limited as that of any purpose built office, however we are committed to take action where appropriate.

Pollution Prevention

Preventing risk of pollution

We consider that our main risk of large scale pollution would be in the event of the building catching fire. We take this risk very seriously and the building is fitted with regulation fire protection alarms and equipment which is tested regularly. Staff are trained to be aware of and remove potential fire hazards.

Commitment to minimising air, water and land pollution

Our Company vehicles are all kept in good order and where possible run on clean fuels. They are all regularly serviced and meet the required standards for emissions.

Waste Management promoting waste minimisation via strategies

Which aim to reduce or eliminate waste, including hazardous waste

We do not generate hazardous waste. Many of our systems of work have become computer based, which minimises the amount of paper used within the offices. Any packaging waste generated is disposed of at authorised Local Authority waste disposal sites, where it is dealt with appropriately.

We also adhere to the Packaging Waste Regulations.

Increase re-using/recycling products and materials

Within our offices we recycle paper products and printer cartridges

Energy Efficiency Including conservation by energy saving measures

Our premises are purpose built modern buildings which meet high standards for energy efficiency. We have our own parking area and maintained grounds that are clean, well kept and sympathetic to the local environment. The heating, lighting and water supplies are all maintained in order to ensure maximum efficiency. Employees are actively encouraged to ensure that all lights and other electrical equipment are powered off when not in use. Heating/air conditioning is controlled by a timer and set at a temperature that is ambient without exceeding current guidelines.

Purchasing

Reducing the environmental impact of goods and services consumed by the Company

We regularly evaluate the many sources of the papers we sell, ensuring that they meet both national and international legislation on quality. Where appropriate we promote the use of material made from re-cycled fibre and ensure that all paper mills that we purchase from are sourcing their fibre from sustainable, renewable sources. With our recently achieved FSC and PEFC accreditations, we can now pass on the chain of custody to our customers for mill certified products that meet the respective standard criteria.

Internally we attempt to purchase and use recyclable paper and other stationery products wherever possible.

Communication of policy to staff

We are confident that our employees have an understanding of the Company's requirements with regard to environmental issues, both internally and with our suppliers and customers. Our methods of working and culture are made clear during the Induction process of each new employee and on an ongoing basis through continued training. Specific issues or areas of concern are high-lighted by email to all employees.

Regular reviews of the policy in order to assess improvement of environmental performance

As a Company we regularly review our approach to environmental issues and the possible benefits of implementing the ISO14000 standard. We have decided that at this time the standard is not relevant enough to a business of our type, to dedicate the necessary resource. However, it is our intention to include Environmental Issues and related KPI's in our business planning process and in this respect we have decided to wait for British Standards to publish their papers on Carbon emissions/neutral sometime due in 2008.
